Accessibility Accommodations

The library strives to be a welcoming and inclusive place for its users.

Here are some tools and accommodations that can be provided upon request.  You may place this request at the library front desk or in advance by emailing library@nwhealth.edu or calling 952-885-5419.

Elevator:

There is an elevator at the back of the library which can access the Sweere Clinic (Ground 0), Door #8 entry/Floor 1, the Fireside Lounge (Floor #2) and the library (Floor #3).

For security reasons, access to the library/Floor #3 is protected by a key. To have the elevator unlocked, please call the library at 952-885-5419.  If the phone isn’t answered, you may also call security at 952-888-4777 and select facilities/security.  To leave the library using the elevator, inquire at the information desk.

Screen Readers:

We have one laptop with JAWS software on it.  To check it out, come to the information desk.

E-Books:

We do offer ebooks but we are limited in how many electronic versions of textbooks we can provide because of software and licensing restrictions. If you need a textbook in screen readable/electronic format that we don’t have, please contact student affairs for assistance as they work with publishers on accessibility issues.

Stand-Up Desks:

The library has 4 standing desks and 2 electronic sit-stand desks in the library. Student Senate has also provided the library tabletop desks to convert a regular table or desk into a standing desk.  They can be checked out at the information desk in the library for use and return in the same day.

If you have a recurring need for a tabletop desk in a specific classroom/area, please contact student affairs (studentaffairs@nwhealth.edu) or the library (library@nwhealth.edu) for a trimester-long option.

Noise:

We ask that people using the library be respectful of the noise they make.  While we do have some sound buffering in the library study rooms, there’s no designated quiet area.  We do have earplugs and noise-canceling headphones available at the information desk.

Tutorials:

We do our best to make our tutorials accessible.  We have subtitles on the videos we offer.  We also often offer plain-text versions of our tutorials.
