Before selecting a journal, consider its scope.  

  • Does the journal publish articles in your area of research?  
  • Does the journal publish the types of articles you'd like to submit?
  • Who is the target audience of the journal? 
  • Where is the journal published and disseminated?

Statements of Scope and Aim: 

Some journals offer statements of scope and aim.  You can usually find these statements in the About Journal, For Authors, or submission information sections of a journal.  These pages also include information about peer-review and reach.

Editorial Board:

Another way to evaluate a journal's scope is by looking at its editorial board. Recognizing the names and their areas of expertise could indicate whether they could evaluate your area of research.
