What is a Google Scholar Profile?

Setting up a Google Scholar Profile is a convenient way to showcase your publication and track article citations. If you make the profile public, it will appear if someone searches for your name.

How to set up your Google Scholar Profile

  1. Sign into your Google account (or create one if necessary.) It's best to use a personal account so that the profile will remain connected to you no matter your institution.  Don't worry - you can add your institution later for display purposes.
  2. Once you've signed in to your Google account, open the Scholar profile sign up form (this link will be customized for you), confirm the spelling of your name, and enter your affiliation, interests, etc. You should also enter your university email address; this would make your profile eligible for inclusion in Google Scholar search results.
  3. You can then proceed to add articles to your profile.  First, work through the suggestions provided by Google.  If you don't see everything, you can search or add manually.
  4. Once your profile is complete, you can preview the public version.  You may also add a profile picture. The profile will also have a personalized URL so that you can link the profile in other places (Iike your e-mail signature).
