Understanding Research Modules

NWHSU created the following modules in conjunction with the University of MN. Students who take Evidence-Informed Practice courses complete these modules to better understand the importance of research and research methods.

Each module contains slides and a quiz to demonstrate mastery.

Introduction to Evidence-Informed Practice Module
This will provide the initial overview of EIP.
Introduction To Research Module
This module introduces the learner to the research.
Basic Science Research Module
This module introduces the learner to the basics of basic science research.
Types of Observational Research Module
This module will help the learner identify research that is considered observational.
Quantitative and Qualitative Research Module
This module introduces the learner to each type of research including what makes them different.
Introduction to Observational Research
This module will highlight important aspects of observational research.
Research Overview Module
This module will instruct the learner in different types of research they may consult in a health care setting and will help them identify how and when to use each type of research.
Asking Clinical Questions Module
This module will help you formulate good clinical questions which will guide your research.
Research In Clinical Practice Module
This module offers more guidance in how to use evidence in a clinical setting.
Validity and Study Quality Module
Even published studies should be assessed for quality. This module guides the learner through that process.
Patient Presentation Module
Patient preference is an important component of EIP. This module discusses how the patient influences evidence-informed decision making.
Outcome Measurement Tools Module
Outcome tools are important for clinicians and researchers to assess the efficacy of treatment.
Measuring Clinical Outcomes Module
This module continues the discussion on outcomes and discusses how they are measured.
Introduction To Statistics Module
Truly understanding research requires a basic understanding of medical statistics which is covered in this module.
Describing Results Module
This module continues with statistics and dives into using statistics to discuss your results.
P-Value and Power Module
The series of modules wraps with another module related to statistics. P-value and power inform how confident you can be with the results of a study.
