Faculty Help and Resources

This guide includes help and instructions for NWHSU Faculty related to library resources and services.

Overview of Library Linking

The library provides access to many high-quality databases, e-books, e-films, and e-journals. We encourage you to explore the library's Databases page and use these resources.  When you find something, use our links to share these resources with students to ensure smooth, worry-free access.

We use a specially formatted link that identifies NWHSU users from both on- and off-campus, to gain access to subscription content.  If you want to share a link directly with your students (via Moodle, etc.), you will want to locate and use the specially formatted link.

Creating Links

This is example is from our new comprehensive library search.  If you have linked to a library subscription using another method, you should generally look for "Share" or "Direct Link" or "Permalink" to find the right URL.

  • Go to the Library home page.  Search by the article title if you know it.  Otherwise, start your keyword search, and you can drill down to the specific item after starting the search:

  • When you find your item, click on the Tools menu to find the “Share” option.

  • If you have already clicked to view the item in full text, there will be a Share option on the article page.  The end result is the same.  Within the Share options, click on Create Link.

  • Copy the URL provided and give that to your students.  This link is specially formatted to provide direct, authenticated access for students to our subscription content.

Here are a few examples of good links.  They have the same thing in common - the link should include “nwhealth.idm.oclc.org”.  Example:

  • https://naturalmedicines-therapeuticresearch-com.nwhealth.idm.oclc.org/databases/food,-herbs-supplements/professional.aspx?productid=611  (Natural Medicines is one example where the page URL is the link to share)

If you're not sure how to locate a link, please ask the library
